LOL for a Northeast black movie, this felt like a Southern movie

The theme after the grocery store scene (won't give it out), was soulfoul. No hip hop beats, no trumpets (a black instrument). This was less like "Across 110th Street" and more like "Jason's Lyric" (which Bokeem Woodbine was in as well).
The hardcore hip hop in this one is surprisingly absent almost (with the exception of select scene).
