Will this movie EVER be released on DVD?

It is Kitano's best film hands down, and it's the only one with no DVD release. It might have something to do with Miramax owning the rights to it, I don't know.

Yes!!! Sonatine (Kitano's best movie in my opinion) is on DVD. You can buy it on ebay, thats were I got my copy. And by the way it is a great edition with good picture and a really nice 5.1 surround if you got that.

tip: Some of the movies listed as not being on DVD on this site you might find on ebay.

reply

I Don't know if this helps or is to late, but Sonetine is available on DVD in the UK, Region 2 and can be found on several sites like play.com or HMV.co.uk

This is crap. If Quentin Tarantino still owns the American rights to this movie, he needs to have Miramax put out a decent AMERICAN DVD edition of this wonderful movie. I don't care if his little "Rolling Thunder" company is out of business or not. Other RT films are out on DVD, some that don't begin to rival Sonatine's power and beauty. It's a tragedy.

reply

They need to release it on DVD in the United States. It is Kitano's best work and it is seemingly being held hostage by Tarantino's lame film company. For those of us who don't want to buy on Ebay or overseas, it stinks.

It looks like there hasn't been an American release after all. From what I can tell, Amazon is selling the all-region Hong Kong DVD, which I just purchased off of Ebay. Thanks, Miramax! Even though you can't bring yourselves to do justice to this great movie, I'm glad I can purchase "Spy Kids 3-D". It warms my heart.

how come none stores have this movie? did they push back release?

reply

It's a very, very good movie and I love it but it's not Kitano best work. Hana-bi would have to be Kitano's BEST work.

I got the limited edition on eBay for 15 bucks. good release, dolby 5.1, widescreen, crappy subtitles. the only thing that made it limited edition though was that it came in a cardboard sleeve thing and had some production notes on a piece of paper inside.

Use LOVEFiLM.com to rent it. They have it in their collection. Not sure which version it is but the text on the cover is in English. It's a great website as well.

Hey guys and girls. ;-) I know this is not exactly the right place to ask, but can anybody tell me if and when they are going to release a DECENT dvd version of Violent Cop? Of course I don't mean those terribly bad MIA and Fox Lorber versions. Thanks in advance. BTW: I like Sonatine a lot, definitely Kitano's best film after Hana-bi.

So, people of August 2002, greetings from the future.
Yes, we come from the year 2013. We feel we should warn you 2002 people that George Bush and Tony Blair are gonna try to invade Iraq next year based on the myth of Saddam Hussein possessing WMDs, and you should stop this from happening.

Also, and this is even more vital to global security, there's an 8-year-old kid named Justin Bieber in Canada, and we suggest that it would be beneficial to the world if he were to meet with some sort of unfortunate, ahem, accident.

Finally, no, we don't have flying cars yet in 2013. So, get on that.
