I went to USC in the early 90's (so before everyone had cel phones). You could have a landline in your room but only if you paid extra for it. I did that some years and other years didn't bother and just used the pay phone in the lobby.

No, the school I went to in PA didn't have phones in the rooms either. We did have a floor phone in addition to the pay phone though. I guess the new dorms they built after I graduated may have been built differently. Phones in the rooms definitely weren't standard. I never expected to have it.
shareThis movie was made in 1993; so that was pretty much the norm back then. I, myself, also was in college at that time at North Texas. Not very many people had cell phones; and if they did, it only worked in the car using the auxiliary outlet. We were fortunate enough to have land lines in our room. Local calls were free; but if you wanted to call long distance, you had to use the pay phone in the lobby area or use a credit card with your land line.
shareinteresting.
today's special: shrimp ceviche!
There were no phones in the dorm rooms when I attended college in the 2000s.
shareContrary to contemporary belief, you can survive without a phone and the internet. Us old people went without quite often.
