why did billy zane deliberately leave a marker on the ground, the one that the panamanian sniper used to help track them down?

and the other sniper guy that tom eventually stabbed in the foot in the shed, who on earth was he? if he was guarding the hacienda then why would he be silently creeping up on billy zane and not alerting the entire compound first?

I think it was Berenger who laid the wrapper down. He then shot the enemy sniper who found it. The wrapper and Zane were both used as bait. Zane even realizes it (out of character) and complains about it (in character).

The question about the soldier Berenger stabs in the foot in the shed not alerting others, I think is because he seems to be a sniper too. He's got the same type of camouflage (is it called a killee suit? something like that) that they're wearing. Berenger says when he meets Zane that snipers are viewed as an outcast profession, so it could be a character thing where that sniper wanted to take out Zane himself.

Love your explanation Grandizer74! It was personal!!!!

Love this film by the way. It's like a slow release low GI treat.

By the way, GI as in Glycemic Index, not Gov Issue. Dig deep into the metaphor to get that one!
