MP5 Sniper lol

Im surprised no one else posted about this. I watched them movie today as it was on TV and near the end when this truck drives up to the Hacienda a bunch of guys with MP5's jump out and one has a scope on it larger than most sniper rifles carry! This is totally stupid, a 9mm para round does not and never would use a scope that large.

That is funny. It's got 35 mins left on AMC, I will definitely keep an eye out for that haha.

MP5s usually don't even have a red dot sight. Just point, shoot.

reply

if you need a scope for an mp5 then you're a $hitty shot

reply

that is a stupid gun for a body guard to have for an open ground cover situation anyways. the mp5 is for close quarters combat like a swat member in a house or building. A better gun for the situation would have been the typical M-16. High rate of fire, long range, and decent damage capability. Another point is, a scope on any weapon unless you are an anti-sniper sniper that is hidden from view just like your sniper attackers is pointless. When you are in an open ground situation "unaware" but wary that there may be snipers in the area, short of unloading millions of rounds in every direction hoping you hit the snipers, there is nothing you can do to protect yourself or your client. The sniper can and will put his round wherever whenever he feels the time is right.

"High rate of fire" douchebag

It's hard to take someone seriously who claims that a .223 rifle is "long range."

reply

"anti-sniper sniper"
You're funny.

The Gunslinger smiled. "On the way to the Dark Tower," he said, "anything is possible."

reply

the correct term is counter sniper.

also, for sniping one would want to go with a .308mag to 7.62mosin and on up to .50bmg

reply

& with the HK PSG-1. Possible the best ever made.

See, this is your Call of Duty generation right here! Who the hell told you mp5 is only good for close quarters when the full size gun's effective range is up to 150 meters? Oh, that's right, because Soap and Captain Price use M16s, how silly of me, who am I to judge the fckin SAS operatives!
M16 would only marginally be a better choice is such situation, and what you wrote about scopes being useless on anything but a sniper rifle is so wrong, I won't even go into details.
You're also wrong about evading a sniper, there's a whole doctrine written about sniper evasion, it's not nearly as desperate and hopeless situation as you make it out to be.

reply

The Mp5 has a higher rate of fire than the m16 and the same number of bullets per clip (30 rounds), but he is correct. An assault rifle is a better gun in that situation.

reply

I just watched the movie and yeah, that sure was one huge scope. . HAhaha... .

i believe it is onlu a night vision scope

My first guess was that the scope isn't for aiming, but rather a substitute for binoculars.

I love the armchair experts in this thread.

Something to always keep in mind when watching a movie like this are the Hollywood aspects that are added that have nothing to do with reality. Putting a big scope on a small gun is one thing.

I thought it was kind of comical how they made a point to show the reticles from each sniper's scope so we knew just who was looking at who/what, but that none of the scopes reticles were "correct" - there wasn't a single mil-dot scope in the movie.

The funniest thing about that guy is that he simply fires from the hip anyway. I suppose if you are going to take such a ridiculous rig into the field, you might as well take advantage of the tremendous optics mounted on your weapon. But no, this guy just sprays and prays in true Hollywood style. You know some prop guy thought he put together the coolest looking thing ever.

This movie wasn't bad, but they clearly failed to hire a consultant or two to help keep an eye on the details.

You kidding me any idiot who says a 9 mm sub machine gun is a better choice to have in combat then a 556 or 762 assault rifle is a moron
