Why is it called SLIVER?!?!?

I can't finger it out :)

reply

Well, it takes place in a "sliver building."

a sliver building -- one of those tall, narrow, and often-criticized residential structures that, in most instances, tower over adjacent low-rise town houses or apartment buildings.

It could mean something else, something more symbolic, but I think it's just as simple as that.

I'M SO EXCITED! I'M SO EXCITED! I'M SO...SCARED!!!

reply

The name of the apartment building is "SLIVER". DUHHHHHHHHHHHH

reply

There are references to the fact that the building used in "Sliver" is actually the Morgan Court apartment building in New York City, on Madison Avenue. The approval & construction of this & other buildings in 1985 generated a storm of protest, and changes to New York City's zoning laws were eventually made to prevent this kind of tall structure from being built when such a structure is out of character with surrounding older buildings.

reply

Could it be spying through the sliver of a door too? Is that an actual expression?

reply

It is because the building, whatever his name is, is located in Sliver Heights, witch is an area of New York.
Easy enough...

'Sliver' buildings were also known as perfect residents for young, rich, upwardly-mobile types, usually single. 'Sliver' buildings are also unusually shaped, like a 'sliver' glass.

Note - Not once in the movie is the apartment block referred to as 'Sliver' or 'Sliver Heights' as some users have erroneously pointed out. The word does not crop in any of the movie's dialogue either.

She´s reading the news about Naomi´s death and there it says another death in the sliver building or some of that sort.

reply

Around 30 minutes into the movie when Carly (Stone) is looking through micro-fiche newspaper articles investigating what happened to Naomi. The caption below Naomi's picture in the article read:

NAOMI SINGER, 33, plunged to her death from the the 20th floor of the East Side Sliver Building.

I absolutely love the apartment building!.It looks like a very large complex. You see Carly walking in the door at the front and she's in like a lobby.then she walks through a big courtyard and she looks up at the sliver building and then walks into a second lobby. It must be very expensive but cool to live there

The building is called Morgan Court. It is a luxury high rise condominium in Murray Hill NYC. Most of the units there occupy full floors and some of them are duplexes. The units range from about $1.5 million to $3 million. Pretty expensive indeed!
