Did anybody read the novel?

Because I'm interested in knowing if the book is better than the movie and what it's about. Thanks.

reply

Yes, it is really good, well worth a read.

The book is a tight, enjoyable read. It's not as interesting as Levin's other novels - 'Rosemary's Baby,' and 'The Stepford Wives', for example. Carly is called Kay in the book and she's older and kind of a world-weary city girl, a lot harder than Stone's incantation. The book is told from the point of view of both Kay and Pete (called Zeke in the movie) so we know from the outset who the killer is - the book isn't a whodunnit. Pete introduces Kay to his 'secret room' pretty early in the book and instead of being outraged like Carly in the film she's mildly pissed off and quickly becomes fascinated, then as addicted to it as he is. Ultimately she discovers the killers identity and he kidnaps her cat.

It IS a lot better than the movie but I can't help it, the film's probably my favourite BAD film.

Don't forget that the novel has NOTHING to do with volacanos.

He's a chicken, I tell you! A giant chicken!

And so far from what I've read there is no tom berenger character as well. He's more or less a composite of two other characters

The books are always better.

I have yet to find a tv show or movie which is better compared to the book even ones that are written based of the movies still tend to be better.

The Shining
The Wizard of Oz
Killing Eve
The Godfather
Handmaid's Tale

etc, etc, etc. . .

It always makes me shake my head when people say this

You may want to re read the books.

Or you have not done so to begin with which is why you answered like this.

reply

I own the books. This is (of course) ultimately a matter of opinion, but there's no way to insist that the movies for ANY of those are inferior to the books. By ANY metric. Period.
