the field trip was pointless

why travel to a nursing home to sit in the front row [in front of the elderly people] just to watch your teachers perform?? they can watch the teachers perform at school anytime. that scene was dumb.

ONE MORE THING!! why did lauryn need a mic to sing her solo at the competition yet when singing with the choir moments later nobody is using a mic

The field trip scene was necessary in order to drive the movie's plot. Upon arriving back at school after the field trip, Sister Mary Clarence gets reprimanded and told that there will be no further field trips allowed, authorized or unauthorized. This creates another challenge later on when Sister Mary Clarence wants to enter the choir in a competition.

and a reason to see the cast from the first film again ! :)

reply

ok the field trip mightve been necessary...however the way it was executed was lousy. they shouldve made it more practical. like taking the students to a museum or something.

reply

WHAT?!
What would the museum have done to help convince the students that a choir is an alright thing?

"Do you even remember what you came here to find?"

reply

She was showing the class the choir she had previously put together, to see their joy while performing. It seemed the nuns already had the gig set up so they were just going to see what they do.

Not to mention to help move the plot forward.

reply

Agreed.

Also, the idea of singing to make other people happy (elderly people in a nursing home...who probably get a lot out of knowing their community hasn't forgotten about them), is a pivotal part of the moral aspect of the story.

The kids are meant to think about people other than themselves, and the nuns are leading by example.

reply

actually they were singing for more people. Also, I never mind listening to Ball of Confusion once more :-P

reply

That was just a dumb scene
