Competition performance

If this is a singing competition for God then how can anyone but God judge how good you are? How can I say, "hmm you're singing a song to praise God but you didn't do it good enough." Secondly, how can the singers be heard over the loud music without any microphones? Why did Rita put it down after her intro? How is this possible?

It wasn't a singing competition for God. It was a singing competition for schools in the state. Any school. Public schools. Private schools. And Parochial schools like St. Francis.

Choirs rarely use microphones. When the soloist is done, the mic is gone or turned off. Otherwise it ruins the balance of the group.

While not shown in the movie, choirs use shells to bounce the sound forward to the audience, like a fireplace bounces the heat into a room. A good choir can fill a space like that without amplification. After all, the audience are all polite adults. It's not like they're talking during the singing.
