Weather control and mystical abilities SPOILER

SPOILER BELOW

It seemed like Thowra was able to control the weather, like when the lightning struck the fence post and freed Golden and when the fog and rain came and hid him from the Man. Was he able to do this in the books?

Also does anyone else think he died at the end? I think he more just created a strong gust of wind to carry himself safely to the ground, in effect faking his own death so that the Man and Darcey would leave him and his family in peace.

reply

well in the books he is referred to a lot as "the son of the wind itself" and it does mention quite a bit about how the weather (snow) "lends" itself to thowra to help him escape....the winter is "His time"

do you want to know whether he dies or not?....i will put the answer belo my signature so you dontnhave to see it....

if you enjoyed the film then READ THE BOOKS! ..they are my second faveourite books of all time! (lord of the rings being my first)...you can really escape in to them and after a while you sort of forget that they are all horses..they are very real and well i could go on for hours about why i like them but i wont bore you to death so just go and read them..you eill love them! [yea]

"Well she turned me in to a newt!"..*surrounding people stare in confusement*.."I got better."

SPOILER!!!!!-----

i think where thowra throws himself over the edge at the end of the film was supposed to be the quick leap on to the lookout platform of his secret vally that lays hidden below. (in the books this is where thowra hides himself and his heard until man has left the high country) and this isnt where he dies in the books...anyway...dont you remember Indie going outside at the end of the film with her mother and them hearing a wild neigh and smiling to themselves?

reply

Yes, I remember that part very well. But I thought perhaps it was his ghost they were hearing. Perhaps Thowra's not just an ordinary horse. Perhaps he's more of an elemental being that has the shape of a horse.

reply

I wouldn't say his an elemental being in the shape of a horse. That's looking into things in alot deeper sense then I like to. Besides, I've read the book. I think that changes things a little.

They're alot better. And the film was great. So really, read them. =)

reply

Yeah, and if you look reeeally carefully at the end when you see the herd of brumbies galloping off you can see three creamies ^_^ which might be the director's way of hinting that Thowra is still alive.

reply

Well, if you listen to the narative at the end, that was his herd in the secret valley. I always took the three 'creamies' in the herd at the end of the movie to be Thowra, Golden and Kunama. Of course, by the time Kunama was fully grown Lightning would have been born (Thowra & Goldens second foal, a colt), and she was only 2 or 3 when Baringa was born (Kunama and Tambo's first foal).
