Does this film have a curse on it?

It was River Phoenix's last film.He died shortly after prodution. The other two stars Richard Harris and Alan Bates died nearly ten years after this film was made.

reply

No curse...people die. Phoenix was killing himself for awhile. If there was a curse, Harris, Bates and all the other stars would have died shortly after him. Instead, Harris and Bates each died of complications of being old.

Every actor is going to have their last film. So I suppose this makes for many cursed films. Harris and Bates have both lived long lives and old people do tend to die I hear. As far as River goes, narcotics have a high risk as well as a high reward. As for the film being underrated, I would agree. I have just seen it on IFC and liked it and wanted to see the rating because my low self esteem needs the affirmation of others. A 3.4 is typically an awful movie. No element of the film even deserves such a score. It doesn't have a lot of ratings and maybe a number of people watched it who should stick to more commercial fair. People who would give this a 1 or 2 should not stray from the flock in the future and should follow the other sheep to the movies and watch what they watch so as not to be confused and traumatized by something a little on the creative side. After that run on I will now run on.

Now the probability of two Mikes responding to this forum within a minute of each other with the same opinion is the mark of some curse or maybe just a coincidence. Although coincidences are much more boring than curses and portents.

Are you talking about Dermot Mulroney, who went on to act in another 25-30 films alongside people like Julia Roberts, Jack Nicholson, Glenn Close, Diane Keaton and Paul Newman, as well as appear on Friends. Is that the "dead career" to which you are referring?

reply

Actually, the last movie River completed before he died was "The Thing Called Love". "Silent Tongue" had been shot over a year before, sometime in 1992. So much for that curse.

reply

Actually the last film he was working on the day of his death was Dark Blood

reply

ya but the last film he finished was The Thing Called Love because they never got to finish Dark Blood

Pheonix was in his film - SNEAKERS
Bates was in his film too - THE SUM OF ALL FEARS

I could say it was Phil Alden Robinson's curse ?
