Sharpe's aspect ratio

Can anyone in England tell me in what aspect ratio the Sharpe episodes were presented? The US/Canada DVD's are 1.33:1 and the picture seems cramped. Are the British DVD's wider (i.e 1.77:1)?

They were all shot on Super-16 at an aspect ratio of 1.66:1.

Maybe we should order the show from the U.K.? I couldn't stand seeing the show in fullscreen, especially with sub-par video quality. I had recorded the first episode on VHS from a PBS broadcast years ago, and IT looked better than the DVD! Completely unaccepatable quality in the video transfer for North America.

I'll second that.

I saw the series on PBS years back, and both the image quality and aspect ratio were much different and superior to the current BFS North American release.

How can you get the Sharpe series in a British edition? Also is there more on the British edition than the American Edition? Extra scenes, background info., other extras.

You can order the British release from Amazon's UK website. I don't know about extras on the DVDs.
