Needs Blu-Ray treatment!

The US DVD version is very poor video quality. I don't know if the UK PAL DVD is
better or not. Having seen the excellent job the BBC did with "Pride and Prejudice" on Blu-Ray, I would love to see the "Sharpe" series re-mastered.
Like others have mentioned, this series is one of the best of it's kind and deserves better.

Agree 100%. The DVD is AWFUL, especially so on an HD monitor. I have to crank down the screen size, otherwise it just looks like one big blur.
Maybe it's something in the transfer or just a lack of interest in making a quality DVD. I find that many DVD's marketed by PBS have similar quality issues, and some of the series that were on PBS in the 80's look like direct VHS to DVD transfers.

A good BluRay release on big HD monitor is like watching it for the first time, no matter how many times you may have seen it before.

I've seen clips of the UK video release. Where the series was still shot on 16mm, the image quality is still far superior on the UK DVD release than the US.

Hmm, I've got the UK release and I see no problem with it. The semi-grainy look of the film I think suits the gritty mood of the series really well. The only reason I'd be interested in a blu-ray release would be to get some extras and even maybe some commentary tracks..

I suspect the problem is that you have too many paperclips up your nose

I also have the R2 UK release, and the image and audio is far superior to the R1 BFS discs.

I also got my blu ray some time back :)
