Favorite Lines

I love the whole movie, but there are lines in this movie that make it all the more memorable!

What are some of your favorites?

I like the scene where Lewis is in the library with Christopher after Joy has gone back to the States, and he asks, "Tell me something, Christopher-- how shall I put this? Would you say you are content?"

"I am as I am. The world is as it is. My contentment or otherwise has very little do with it, I think."

"But don't you ever feel a sense of waste?"

"Of course."

I love that scene!

Jack: "That's not why I pray, Harry. I pray because I can't help myself. I pray because I'm helplss. I pray because the need flows out of me all the time-- waking and sleeping. It doesn't change God; it changes me."

And then, of course, there's the marriage proposal!

"Will you marry this foolish, frightened old man, who needs you more than he can bear to say... who loves you, even though he hardly knows how?

And of course, her reply was perfect: "Just this once."

My favourite - sorry, I may not have the quotation *exactly* right - is when Joy puts the pompous academic in his place by asking if he's 'trying to be offensive or merely stupid'.

Gets me each time!

I'm fond of that scene with Christopher too, but I wouldn't choose it as my very favorite. I suppose my favorite line is Whistler's, "We read to know we're not alone."

I also especially like what Lewis says in the barn in the Golden Valley: "I don't want to be somewhere else anymore. I'm not waiting for anything new to happen. Not looking round the next corner, nor over the next hill. I'm here, now, and that's enough."

Joy: "It's just that you don't say it all, do you?"
Jack: "Well, one can't say it all, it would take too long."
<always gives me a chuckle>

The humor in the entire was so subdued, it would be easy to miss it, but that is a great scene! Thank you for sharing!
