Barbara Streisand was supposed to star in this!

Insufferable indeed. I'm glad she passed on it and I'm glad the normal heart didn't work out for her either, she's so over the top and sled-centered on her movies it would have diminished Lewis entirely.

Streisand was a truly great singer and a quite good actress, at least early in her career. But she has an enormous ego, and sadly she let it get out of control. She was fantastic in "Funny Girl", but even then Director William Wyler made the wry comment that she was very good "for her first time as a director". Wyler directed some of the greatest actors of two generations, yet novice Babs Streisand apparently thought she knew better. It went downhill from there. I really don't agree with the views that she was a good director. "Tootsie" . . . I mean "Yentl" was pretty good, but her later efforts were not - "The Prince of Tides"? PUUULEEEZE!!! She would have been absolutely HORRIBLE in Shadowlands. She would have done her typical Schtick - "You didn't propose to me. What am I, STUFFED LIVER?!!!"
