I'm glad they didn't shy away from Colin's attraction to Mary and his jealousy over her relationship with Dickon. Its only natural considering she's the first real girl he's come into contact with and he never knew her growing up.

My question upon watching the film again after all these years was the relationship between Colin and Dickon. I have no doubt that Dickon had an attraction towards Mary but I wonder if Colin was actually more attracted to Dickon. I dunno, it was just a thought. And since this is a children's film I doubt it but it crossed my mind.

I don't think that Colin having any attraction to Dickon ever crossed my mind. I think he definitely envied Dickon because of the attention he got from Mary, and perhaps also admired/looked up to him a bit. But I never saw any attraction in the romantic sense of the word. It's an interesting point of view though.

Colin was jealous and a bit envious of Dickon, but I don't think he "loved" him. Dickon's a peasant boy in many ways and Colin is lord of the manor (while his father is not around, which is almost always) --- Colin would only see Dickon as a labourer fit to do nothing but manual work, and Dickon knows his place. Note how even though they're all playing together in the garden as kids, Dickon still sticks to proper forms of address: "Miss Mary" and "Master Colin".
