I like Chess, and I like this movie!

I'm lousy at chess, but I'm learning it. I think chess beats any strategy-game when it comes to both board-games and video/computer-games. I'm almost addicted to it. But only almost, :-)

I liked this movie not only because of the chess in the movie, also the story about a father and son relationship that is almost broken into pieces because of the father's pushing his son to the limit..... Maybe this movie isn't Oscar-material, but I love this movie alot. plus I'm kind of a fan of Bobby Fishcer.. I've seen the games he played in various tournaments, and good god, he did som moves I thought was impossible.

Thanks to this movie I've learned stuff about chess like the art of sacrificing and the art of strategy.... Before I only played because I wanted to play, but now I can almost see patterns and moves I never saw before! This isn't a "learn how to play chess"-film, I know that, but it gives away som stuff that you have use of.

In case of that Ill be called a nerd from you, I wil stop writing now! Have a nice day!

*cough* Sorry, but I don't think this movie is very good at "teaching" chess, and there is a problem if you think that you are learning from it. Just pick up some good chess books.

If, someone feels they've taken anything away from this film I see nothing wrong with is raistlin. Granted, it's not an instructional film, but it certainly does dribble a bit of nuance for an unseasoned player. More importantly, perhaps, it helped explain the mindset of a great chess player, and expose a portion of the enigma that is their mind. To anyone who took something away from this film that improved your game, or comprehension of the game, then more power to you.

This movie isn't really about chess. It's about the pressures and expectations that a child prodigy must try to live up to while trying to be "normal"; a father son relationship where the kid tries to please his dad, but the dad pushes the kid to the breaking point.

What I am saying, this could have been about chess, tennis, golf, piano, ice skating, the spelling bee, you name it. The focus is not on the chess, but how Josh's life is affected by it.

I never said that I learned chess from this movie. I only learned the art ocf sacrifice.

But I do understand what you mean...

With apologies to none
My tangled webs are spun
On rubber boards no less
Made checkered for some chess
One time I played a tardy lass
Perhaps arriving from some class
Both yard and valley she'd traverse
While seeking token in her purse
No matter that, a rule's a rule
And one more minute I'll win this duel
But here she comes, I'm not surprised
She's heaven sent I realized
Just fourteen moves were all it took
For my whole game to be forsook
With smile wider than the hall
She says " I'm sorry but not at all. "
