Point of Bruce playing speed chess in the park?

I love this movie, but never understood what the point of Bruce playing speed chess in the park was. Was it to show that he was rethinking his life and things? Cool scene, just never understood the point of it.

I think it was to basically free his mind. Same reason he went fishing. It was to play more from the "gut" as put in the movie. To be more natural and not let certain strategies get in the way of his own ideas. If you concentrate to hardly on something you may find it will get aggravating and then difficult. An example such as this happened to me recently: I was doing a Sudoku puzzle and couldn't find a square to put in a number. So I eventually got annoyed and stopped trying. The next day I picked it up and I found one during the first minute.

You idiot, he was asking why BRUCE was playing in the park, not Josh.

While I agree that it's pretty funny he overlooked their names, I don't really see the point in calling him an idiot, or why you would get so angry over it, you ass hole. ;)

I think the "point" was that he realized the student had surpassed the teacher and just wanted to learn how he could improve his game by using both types of play.
