Fathers! Don't try this at home....

...if your child gets knocked out of the tournament; Don't lecture them about their failure in the pouring rain.

Thank you Captain Obvious

Josh didn't get knocked out of the tournament by that other kid- he took himself out of the competition on his own because he was afraid of eventually having to go up against Jonathan Poe. After seeing Poe beat that old Russian guy in the park, Josh was scared to death of him. So, he figured "Let me deliberately lose to this patzer I'm playing now even though I can kick his butt so that I won't have to worry about having to face Poe in the future."

I think Josh "threw" the game because he felt sorry for the other kid, who was truly scared to lose and disappoint his parents.

unfortunately I have seen that kind of behavior from other in many sports.
and all cases the children stopped playing at the age of 18 years old like Josh Waitzkin.

I loved football as a kid. As soon as I was old enough, I signed up for the Pop Warner team in my town. My dad was so obsessed with it, mainly badgering me about my shortcomings, that he turned it into a miserable experience, and I quit after a couple of seasons. I haven't even watched a football game on tv since 1967. Sports dads need to know when to back off.
