Good version of classic tale

Film versions of classic tales seldom live up to the book's promise so when I first sat down to see this version I wasn't too hopeful, but Bronson, in one of his last decent leading roles, does a great job playing off his archtypical tough guy persona to protray the cold-hearted mysterious sea captain while Reeve effectively plays the "fish out of water part" as the socialite land lubber forced to face up to the tough old sea captain if he is to survive. Having read the story I feel this version presents a faithful and effective telling of a classic tale and keep me on the edge of my seat!

Chris reeves is great in it,

It's really good. Well worth seeking out. But every time Chrles Bronson would seize Reeve's neck and throw him around I'd cringe, thinking of how he would be shattered for real just a year or two later.

I felt just the same.

I have been looking for this movie for ever. Have VHS, but want it on DVD. Any suggestions? No torrents available.

I love this film very much, though I always felt everyone was miscast. Bronson looks too Native American to play a Swede and Reeve is not believable as a puny Van Weyden; he's huge, the man was Superman for crying out loud!

I have a VHS copy to sell and I transfered it to DVD if anyone would like to purchase a copy from me. I even include a reconstructed trailer.
