How come they never thought

Over time, how come the kids didn't try to save up when they could and buy a handful of balls when they could instead of always just playing with one ball at a time? how much was a dollar worth in the 60's?

The movie takes place in 1962. A dollar back then was the equivalent of $7.65 in 2013, accounting for inflation. That would have been pretty tough for most kids to come up with in those days.

Well, can't he just beam up?
This is *reality* Greg.

Exactly, plus these kids were just looking to have fun and aren't thinking too far ahead, just living in the moment.

What, were they living during The Great Depression? lol

They must have been rich.. If Smalls can hit a home run, imagine how many balls get lost when the others bat.

They were able to scrape up enough money to buy a ball in one day. Even 8 bucks is not much money if you split it 8/9 ways.
