Who else could have played Matthew?

There aren't many actors who could pull off playing a borderline saint character like Matthew. One that comes to mind that I think could have done it is Jim Caviezel (and that doesn't just come from him playing Jesus in 'The Passion of the Christ'; I was a fan of his and imagined him playing Matthew long before 'The Passion'). I can't really think of any other actors pulling it off, though.

Then again, I wouldn't have necessarily thought Matt Dillon, and he did a wonderful job!

Absolutely NO ONE could have captured the innocence and vulnerability as well as Matt Dillon. Superb!

Why? Was there something wrong with Matt playing Matthew? :)
Yeah, I know some like to speculate how other's might have measured up to playing the role.

I'm thinking back to how he played Moody, the bully in "My Bodyguard". I think this was the first time I'd seen M. Dillon, so I automatically gained the mindset that he played the bad guy in most other films (yeah, I know. bad judgement call).

In this movie, he's the one being bullied (by Little Leroy). Matt's character was just the opposite.
