She came across as someone with no personality in her character; she was

completely emotionally cold in this movie. For her part alone,
I don't like this movie. It's as if she was acting to suppress
emotions. I didn't like it.

Please give it another viewing about this.

That's pretty much how people end up in an indifferent world. The only colorful characters you meet are trying to scam you out of something.

I had a mixed opinion. I like the realism. I like the understatement of it. I like that it was an honest movie about someone on the lower rungs of the economic ladder.

But on the other hand, part of me wants to agree with what you said too. It's been years since I saw it so my memory is a little rusty. I particularly disliked the part where she went out with that rich guy and slept with him (on the first date, if I remember correctly) but then tells him in so many words to buzz off. And it was all presented as though that were a perfectly honorable thing for her to do and she was supposed to be the one with the dignity. Well, that's not true where I come from. Granted that guy didn't have much character to speak of, but still.

Quite the opposite, I thought she came over as a very sensitive character. As far as her relationship with the two males, they were both wanting very concrete things from her, a commitment, to which she wasn't ready or perhaps had been escaping from at the beginning, in her home state. Her attitude through out is one of cautious investigation, she is open as much as she wants to be and seems to have a strong internal life. I thought it was a very intriguing and at times realistic portrayal.
