European elevators

Has anyone seen those weird open air continuous elevators like they use in an office in this movie I think? Seems like they would be dangerous. What if you miss your floor at the top. Does anyone know what they are called or a company that makes them? I am curious to know more about them. Maybe they are better than regular elevators or escalators, who knows. I've seen them in a couple of Euro movies, don't know what they are called.

Here it is. It's called a Paternoster. Each car goes in a continuous loop so it does not matter if you stay on it, but they are called elevators of death and not in use much any more. If anyone knows of any other movies that have them, please do share. Thanks
