Overlooked movies

I saw this one when it came out at the Mayan in Denver in 1993. The otherwise jaded art-house movie crowd gave it a spontaneous round of applause when it finished, so inspiring was the ending. Ignore the commentary, this film is definitely worth a look and functions as a much needed tonic to today's hysteria on immigration.
On a more general note, I think this belongs in an "overloked movies of the decade category". What other movies do people think that were overlooked, i.e. that clearly were well done and relevant and yet somehow went without major awards, popularity, or widespread critical acclaim?
