Was I the only one
Who thought this was really bad?
I don't know, maybe it's because I'm so fond of Aladdin, but I was so stoked to watch this and ended up disappointed. I haven't even attempted King of Thieves because this let me down so much.
I mean, at least they kept the original villain, unlike The Hunchback of Notre Dame II, where the villain was a pathetic weed next to Frollo. But, a few things bugged me:
1) The songs were pretty forgettable, and the only one I remember is for bad reasons. Iago's voice, I'm afraid, is horrific. I don't wish to endure that again.
2) The animation to me seemed really poor. Again, this may be because I have a remastered version of Aladdin, meaning the animation is especially crisp and I'm not used to normal 90's animation, but it just seemed really poorly drawn and rushed.
3) Dan Castellaneta. Nothing was ever going to top Robin Williams' performance, of course. But my God, he was awful. He had none of the flair the Genie had, and of course, all I could think was 'Wow, he hasn't even bothered to try and not make himself sound like Homer Simpson in this one'
In ROJ's defence, it wasn't the worst Disney sequel I've seen (The Fox & The Hound 2/previously mentioned Hunchback 2 have that prize) BUT, I don't understand why it's praised as much as it is.
It's probably just me.
