Chritsopher Reeves' character in the book

Could someone explain the difference between Christopher Reeves' character (in the movie he was either Congressman Trent Lewis or Jack Lewis). In the book he was either Mr. Farraday or Mr. Lewis. It's all a bit confusing to me. I'm in the process of reading this fabulous little book and sorting it all out, but these two discrepancies have me very puzzled. Thanks beforehand if you can go into as much detail as you can in clarifying those details.

In the movie, the two characters from the novel, Mr. Lewis and Mr. Faraday, were combined into one, just to streamline the story for movie audiences.
It's easier to have a large cast of characters in a novel than it is in a movie because if a reader gets confused, he can flip back through the pages and refresh his memory but movie audiences can only follow the narrative as it moves forward.

I am so glad you are reading the novel and finding it fabulous. I think it's one of the best novels ever written in English, a perfect gem of a book.

Got it. Thank you so much for your clarification. Now it seems not only plausible, but obvious. It's great finding a kindred spirit rather than a nasty blogger that puts me down for not grasping what seems to them self-explanatory and apparent.

You're welcome. Glad my explanation was helpful.

I saw the movie, then read the book. Boy, was I thrown for a loop when suddenly Mr. Faraday appeared alongisde Mr. Lewis. Where did he come from? The dense prose of the novel didn't make figuring it out any easier, either. But it was well worth the effort. For one thing, I can't even think of the words "banter" or "bantering" without smiling.
