The Street Chicken scene is back.

I can assure everyone that the Street Chicken scene has not been lost forever - Foxtel in Australia is showing the uncut version on the Showtime Greats channel.

The scene goes like this - the drunk QB leaps over a barrier onto an incredibly busy multi-lane road. He then lays down on the white line, the cars are whizzing by at a fast speed, and missing him by inches.

His team-mates yell at him to come back, but he looks like he's having a great time and stays put. His team mates are all very concerned. Then they collectively decide that this is a test of their bravery and so one by one they join the QB on the white line, until there are about 5 guys all lined up behind the QB with traffic speeding past.

They are all scared silly and yelling out in fear and exhiliaration, except the drunk QB who is smiling and reading a magazine !

I found the scene to be appropriate to the movie, and it was all very well staged, and fairly adrenalin charged, anyone who decided to copy this stunt in real life was too stupid to live anyway.

I wish they'd release it here in the U.S. Thanks for the description, I had forgot how it actually went. The first time I saw this in theatres, I saw this scene. The second time, it was gone. Hopefully they will put it back on the DVD.

reply

Wow, thanks for the great scene description Darren. I was too young to ever see this in the theaters. That really should be put back into the DVD. Maybe throw in some extra features of something. Anything can be better than Spanish and French subtitles.

Here is an actual 35mm clip of that scene, now being sold on eBay!!:

I remember hearing about this scene (and seeing a brief clip of it on a DC area TV station whose critic was reviewing The Program)when this movie came out. I didn't see the movie then, but remember hearing about one or more sadly dimwitted high school age kids who died copying this scene. Last week my 14-year old son and I watched this on DVD. I was not surprised to note this scene had been cut. I described it to my son, and the reason it had been cut. He could not believe anyone could be so stupid as to copy a scene from a movie.

its not on the dvd i have. i bought the cheap one. 8 bucks or something. im not sure if they ever came out with a special edition or something, but its not on the normal one, unfortunately.

I've heard the scene is right after the bar scene where Joe Kane sees the SI article for the first time. He goes "I'll lead, question is, can you boys follow?" Cut right to the part where they are at the highway.

reply

That's exactly where that scene was....saw it in the theater in '93.

reply

Not sure if it's true, but I've also heard there was a great line in that scene. As the cars are all flying past, Joe is reading the SI article about himself and quips "It says here I'm good under preasure." Great line for the scene either way.

reply

i remember that line from the previews, or something very close to it.

I remember seeing the scene in theaters before they cut it out...It was really crazy!!

reply

I saw this in the theater, too, but now I barely remember it. I can't believe that in the internet age this scene is not up somewhere. This never seems to come on cable. You would think it would air during college football season. It even has Halle Berry.

Thanks, I remember hearing about this when some knucklehead got killed trying to imitate...by the time I rented it the scene was gone of course. For some reason I thought I remembered it as being a dare on railroad tracks.

With all the "World's Dumbest..." and other collections of bizarre video mayhem, I'd think this scene would at least be put in the deleted scene part of a dvd.

Scene should never been cut out. There have been worse scenes in movie history.

Scene is now available for anyone to watch on YouTube.
