Totally agree with you. I thinkl alot of them condition their child this way. And I salute you for not being a stereotypical cheerleader mom.
I lived in Texas for all four years of my high school career, and let me tell you something, Texas high school cheerleading is big business. You get on the Varsity squad, you can get into a good college, get into a good sorority, and then get a good job after college.
We even had our own cheerleader controversy. A girl didn't make the squad due to a computer error. She brought her mother in and threatened to bring in her lawyer. The school caved into her (even though they were at fault) and she got onto the squad. It was the only time in the history of our school we had an 11 varsity cheerleader squad.
There are two things Texans don't screw around with: their football and their cheerleading.
