Cheerleading is not worth killing for!

I am a high school cheerleader, and it is my first year on the squad. Before that I thought that I woould have killed to get on the team, but now that I am a cheerleader, I see that it is no big deal. It's great, yes, don't get me wrong, but some people take it too seriously. The same goes for high school football, as you can see in Friday Night Lights.

I have a daughter that is a cheerleader. I cannot get over how many of the moms try to live through their daughters. They push the hell out of these girls to be the best. What is a shame is half of the girls don't even want to cheerlead. They are forced there. I told my daughter that whenever she feels overwhelmed and don't want to do it anymore, she can quit. But she loves it too much.

Maybe I am too critical of the other moms, but my god. They need to give their child a break!

Totally agree with you. I thinkl alot of them condition their child this way. And I salute you for not being a stereotypical cheerleader mom.

I lived in Texas for all four years of my high school career, and let me tell you something, Texas high school cheerleading is big business. You get on the Varsity squad, you can get into a good college, get into a good sorority, and then get a good job after college.

We even had our own cheerleader controversy. A girl didn't make the squad due to a computer error. She brought her mother in and threatened to bring in her lawyer. The school caved into her (even though they were at fault) and she got onto the squad. It was the only time in the history of our school we had an 11 varsity cheerleader squad.

There are two things Texans don't screw around with: their football and their cheerleading.
