Wrong Actress to play the Lead!

She wasn't engaging whatsoever. She was bland and boring. They should've cast a prettier actress with enticing eyes.

Like who Julia Roberts lol Holly Hunter brings the character alive imo her facial expressions and her eyes are amazing being able to show such a range of emotions without speaking is only something a brilliant actor/actress can do not to mention she was actually playing the piano herself in most scenes . I cant imagine anyone better for the role of Ada in this movie .

Funny that, I just re-watched this film last night and said to my partner "You know, this film wouldn't have worked with anyone but Holly Hunter in the lead". My partner agreed. She brings a steely determination and self-possession to the role that I can't imagine any other actress matching.

The word you want is "cast" not "casted", by the way.

I used to want to change the world. Now I just want to leave the room with a little dignity.

Hold on there Bandit Queen, Holly Hunter is brilliant and there is no one, that could have done this film any better !!! She is a real actress, not just some chick with a great agent and a few solid moves that she uses in EVERY FILM SHE'S EVER BEEN IN ! Check out more of her work, I dare you.
tell it like it is....

She does her role perfectly IMHO. THere might be one or the other actress who could have done an equally good job, but Hunter's performance is one of the best I've ever seen.

Perfect film. Ada starts out stern and matronly and blossoms as her relationship progresses. Harvey was absolutley mesmerizing Sam Neil perfectly desperate and Anna Paquin truly was a surprise. Even New Zealand was the perfect location. I can't find one flaw. Wish Harvey could have won an Oscar as this was probably his most ambitious role(Smoke was good too but not on this level).Left me breathless.

I disagree completely. Holly Hunter LOOKED the part. She was far from bland and boring. She won the Academy Award for her role and rightly so. There was no mistake in casting. The only mistake here is your taste.

I think she's the saddest girl ever to hold a martini.

You're obviously hypnotized into thinking that actresses have to be pretty in order to be successful. Wake the fvck up. And Holly was the only choice for the film.

Perfectly cast and remarkably pretty, especially her eyes!

reply

I agree. I think Holly Hunter did an amazing job with this movie. I also like Harvey Keitel thought he was fabulous. Actresses don't have to be beautiful to be good actresses.

Considering Holly won the Oscar for the role, any talk about being miscast simply doesn't fly.

reply

Definitely, she deserves her Oscar.

It's hilarious you mention enticing eyes. She plays a mute character and is playing with her eyes so well that it remains one of the most deserved Oscar winners IMO. Prettier? Are you serious?
