I love a good, old fashioned conspiracy thriller but I am tired of movie after movie from "Three Days of the Condor" (1975) to "Shooter" (2007) where oil is the motivation behind the conspiracy.

I'm so glad that the recent movie "State of Play" (2009) changed the motivation from oil interests to contract soldiers.

Well, yeah, it's always about oil, in real life. Destroy parks, make animals go extinct... as long as we can get our oil.

Well call me a tree-huggin liberal pussy, but the main problem is readily-identified. Get rid of your car, live in a town somewhere closer to your needs, ride a bike or walk to work or work from home. I live in a place where you don't need a car at all, but unfortunately most of America's infrastructure the last 60 years has been designed around almost manditory daily car use. Some people won't even go half a mile from home without using their car. That's totally messed up.

That's not realistic at all and would just result in the creation of 3rd world slums on the outskirts of major cites.

Do you really think it's realistic for the poor to limit their job choices to only those within walking distance?

Not everyone can afford to live within walking or biking distance of their jobs. Housing costs in major cities would rise sharply due to the increased demand.

Those apartments in NYC that are now just barely affordable to recent college graduates would become completely out of reach.
