Never Did Like Julia Roberts

The studios and her publicist tried to boost her career by suggesting that she was "America's Sweetheart". Her brother Eric is a much better actor and his range is superb. Rachel Weisz would have been much better in this movie than Julia Roberts. Ms. Robert's acting during the car bomb fell flat. When she was in the car and approached by the bad guys she started playing with her ear as if she were gesturing "sounds like" in the game of charades.

I don't like Julia Roberts either but this is the one movie of her's that I like to watch.

reply

I didn't really care for Julia Roberts in this film since I thought she did better films.

I have liked quite a few of her movies but I particularly like this one. She emotes quite well as the terrified law school co-ed. I am surprised that she was not given enough credit for her performance in this movie. In fact, I am surprised that so many have panned it. All around it is a great suspense movie for 1993.

reply

I thought she gave a solid performance actually.

Notting Hill was her best where she was allowed to become UNamerican and loosen up, be herself

Well, I think her reaction in the car explosion scene was very convincing, and the guys who approached her in the car afterwards were not the bad ones, on the contrary they were hired by the CIA Director to watch and protect her and about her playing with her ear, at that moment she was in a state of shock after losing her lover in the explosion and probably wasn't even aware of what she was doing.

I love Julia Roberts!

John Grisham, in interviews, has always said he wrote Pelican Brief with Julia Roberts in his mind as Darby Shaw. He thought Roberts was perfect casting.

reply

There was actually a time when the studio was considering letting her go. Grisham stepped up and made sure she stayed. Very different from his usual practice of signing the rights of the book over and walking away.

I liked her in this movie, she was good enough.
