Upcoming 3rd season? Plus, next year, it'll be 20th anniversary!

There WILL be a third season, there was never any doubt. It was just put on hiatus as the director is currently working on the first of four new NEON GENESIS EVANGELEON films. The director himself has stated he wants to animate as much of the manga as possible and completely plans to continue on, but for the time being it must be put on hiatus until [at the very least] the first of the four films is out in theaters. No doubt there will be definitive information come this fall.
