Watched this movie for the first time last night.

I watched this movie last night on Netflix, and it was the first time I've ever seen it. I have to say I was pretty impressed with the movie. I loved the way it looked. I thought the design was cool, and the lighting. Halloween town was really well designed. It really had that German expressionism look to it.

I agree though I don't know what you mean by German Expressionism.

Green Goblin is great! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=t1L4ZuaVvaw

German Expressionism was an artistic movement in Germany after WW1 due to a ban on foreign films. So a lot of art was created inside of Germany to fill the vacuum.

If you look at a lot of the paintings, drawings, and movies they did. A lot of them had the same look this film did. Tim Burton was influenced by this art style, and you see it over, and over again in his movies.

In short a lot of German Expressionistic paintings of towns. Look like Halloween town in this film.

If you like the look of this movie then you'll enjoy those paintings too.

I watched this on sky yesterday, I found it a bit similar to The Corpse Bride which is another Tim Burton film.

Wow. :) I've never known anyone to point out the inspiration from German Expressionism art. Yes, I love that it took twisted art styles and introduced a wide range of children to such and it was later marketed as mainstream! It's certainly a visually stunning animated film. I'm always surprised when someone hasn't seen this movie, haha. I try to encourage them to sit down and watch it and hopefully take away even a fraction of what I did as a kid. It's so layered that it can appeal to nearly anyone.
