Appropriate for little kids?

I haven't seen this since it came out on video like 16 years ago, but I'd like to watch it again. Just wondering if it is appropriate to let my kids watch it with me? They are 6 and 2 1/2. I don't want any nightmares!

Thanks!

I saw it in the theaters when I was four, they'll be fine. The villain oogie boogie might frighten your 2 1/2 year old a little bit, but he gets defeated in the end so everything should be okay.

"You remember the time I was supposed to get that boat?"

Im watching it right now with my 8yr old son. We have been watching it at Christmas time for the past 3yrs now, he loves it. Trust me, do yourself a favor turn off the disney channel for a couple of hours(lol, ironically its airing on XD) and watch something great, something that one day will be as timeless as Rudolph. A really great film.

Depends on the child but they should be fine. My 4 year old watched it for the first time yesterday and is watching again right now. He loves it and isn't scared.

It's can be a little scary at times (kinda like The Addams Family) but it was primarily made for children. Disney originally pulled out I think because of these darker themes but later came back on.

It is on this week in the UK. :D

I think that your 6 year old will like it, but your 2 1/2 year old might be a little scared by the scary images in this movie, but this movie is pretty tame, so I don't think it's a big problem for little kids.

reply

I don't have a 6 year-old.

I don't think it's for little kids either. Me and a pre-teen cousin of mine try showing the movie to our younger cousins who were spending the night with us one time (I think this was one or two years ago. They're still little.) but we had to change it to a different film cause it was creeping them out. It's probably better for ages 10 to 11 years or more older.

I think it depends on the kid. I saw this movie when I was 3 or 4 I think and it didn't bother me. Well in the end when the Jack pulls off the Boogieman's bag and it's just all bugs did freak me out but to be fair, I'm 22 now and that part still makes me want to vomit.

Again it all depends on the child and what they're ready for.

My daughter is almost 9, and she's been watching this movie for about 5 years now.

My niece is 5 and we've been watching this together for about a year now. She loves it, I love it. We sing all the songs together.

I woulda been here sooner, but I was thinking up that "ham on rye" line.

It really depends on the child. When I was young, my mom actually almost didn't let me and my brothers watch it because she thought it would be too scary. It didn't scare any of my brothers nor did it scare me. If your kids were like me when I was a child, your kids will be more then okay with it. I was a child that was never afraid of anything, from 3 through the rest of my childhood.

However, if your child was like my cousins, I would wait until your kids are 10.

Let them watch it! They'll be perfectly fine.

I would imagine its not that scary. Yes it does have some scary elements but its not really that scary.

I grew up watching this movie, and it never scared me. As long as you watch it with them and point out that they aren't EVIL monsters, they're just doing their jobs to make Halloween fun for little kids like them, they should be ok. That's assuming they get scared at all, kids these days can either be immune to anything scary or be wimps about everything y'know?

I was afraid of my own shadow though and I have always loved this movie.

I liked this movie a lot when I was young. There's not much that will be truly scary for anyone older than 5. A 2 1/2 year old might get scared by some images depending on their tolerance level for monsters, but generally I'd say it's good for kids. I even included it on my list of movies every child should see.
