This would have been much better if they didn't sing.

I would have actually enjoyed the story if not for the annoying songs. I like some musicals (Oliver!, My Fair Lady, Jesus Christ Superstar, Sound of Music, Grease, Wizard of Oz), but did not like the music in this one. I also hate when they sing on Family Guy and American Dad.

I did like the creepy gifts they put under people's trees.

No way, the songs are excellent and a huge part of the film. It's Danny Elfman!! A musical genius if you ask me. His soundtrack work, specifically all of the early Tim Burton films, is of the highest order. I'm also a big fan of Oingo Boingo (Danny's band) and his solo work.

Not sure what this amazing film has to do with Family Guy.... ugh.

The singing is the best part of this film. Without the songs, it wouldn't be a popular movie.

reply

It would be more popular without the awful singing.

The film is one of the most iconic films of it's generation.. it's already HUGE.
But the songs tell the story, they're just singing their lines than bursting out in a musical number.

Henry Selick (director) didn't want so many songs, but he was over ruled by Tim.

It just wouldn't be the same film without the songs.

Tell that to all the people who can easily sing "This is Halloween" and remember that as the most significant part of the film

The animation and sets are wonderful. The songs are terrible, interminable and forgettable. Too much Danny Elfman, who otherwise created the classic Simpsons theme.

reply

Agreed!

They could have cut down the number of songs.

"Jack's Lament" is probably my favorite song in this movie or any movie. When I saw this in the theaters for the first I was enjoying the movie, but in that moment I was instantly drawn into it. It gave me chills. I am sorry that you didn't experience that magical feeling.

I felt the songs only amplified this already great film. The lyrics had a catchy tone to them. So agree to disagree

When God made Tom Cruise, he was only joking.

This is the best performed musical in an animated movie. The best ever

^^^^THIS

The music is phenomenal. It makes this movie as amazing as it is.

The musical numbers are the reason I still watch this movie as an adult. Just today I was going around singing, "What's this? What's this?" every time I look at something. It's driving my friends crazy.

I love musicals, and in my opinion the songs made this movie. Jack's Lament was always my favorite. I could probably sing it all day long.

Do you believe in magic?
