Why is it H P Lovecraft's?

Pretty average film, last story is the only one worth watching really but why is it H P Lovecraft's Necronomicon? Is it because he's in it? the stories are not only nothing to do with him but they don't even come close to it. Annoyed they put his name on it. If he had just been a character then maybe but still......

To cash in on the name. Nothing more.

Well, he is in it as a character. Jeffrey Combs plays him in the wrap-round segments--he introduces himself as Howard P. Lovecraft when he arrives at the monk's library. And, of course, Lovecraft invented the Necronomicon. The contents of The Necronomicon are not consistently described even in Lovecraft's own stories, so making it a book of true horror stories is not the worst thing this movie does.
The first story is mostly an homage to the Corman Poe pictures but it is strung on names lifted from from "Rats in the Walls". The plot is ridiculous and throws in what might be a Deep One and some tentacles...
The second story is obviously derived from "Cool Air", but is neither a decent adaptation nor a clever variation.
The third story is pretty gory and insane, it has... echos... of "The Whisperer in Darkness", but really resembles nothing Lovecraft wrote.
Overall, this is not the least Lovecraftian of H.P. Lovecraft films, but it is in the running which is kinda sad, because the writer of most of it also wrote the best H.P. Lovecraft adaptation, The Resurrected.
