Just saw this movie and i must say i was very impressed, While never having read any of lovecrafts work i do own the call of cuthulu RPG and have rewad it cover to cover a few times as the subject interests me very much.

Can anyone Recomend any other movie title simiar to this ie. close to lovecrafts original ideas :)

Thanks for any help!

There was the movie "Dagon" that is based off of the short story "Shadow over Innsmouth", also the movie "from beyond" based off the story of the same name. Dagon is much closer to the source than From Beyond, but they are both decent films. A lot of Lovecraft's short stories are available on lone in PDF format if your intrested in reading any of his works.

I say as a avid reader of H.P. Lovecraft that you should read the necronomicon which you can get on amazon. It is what supposedly inspired H.P. Lovecraft and the Cuthulu mythos and supposedly lead to his madness. Anyway if you believe in its power or not it is still an interisting read. Just don't take it lightly. Also another good movie with jeffery combs is Attic Expeditions just thought i would add that.

just to set the record straight ( cuz some people are so stupid it hurts me as a human)the necronomicon was a book made up by hp lovecraft for his fictional stories to work around, hahaha dumbass`s like azrael here think its this deep dark hidden book whih give them the ability to cast spells and get good ole marduk and the boys on yer side muhahaha, GET A LIFE!, ya you sure are an avid reader of lovecraft cheif, you just won the nimrod award for the day, heres a cookie, go split it with your missing social skills. hahaahah i`m sure all master books containing evil incantations are available at amazon.com, hahaha dumbass, it was written by people, basically fans of lovecraft, who refuse to believe that he made up the book, there are equivelant books to other cultures, as for lovecraft going nuts, his entire family was in the nuthouse at least a few times each, it was to be expected that he would go , read some about the man instead of believeing in things he made up loser, your the kind of ignorant loser that gives heavy metal a bad name when someone gets killed, i susgest your go to the official lovecraft site and actually learn and read about the man...AND HIS CREATIONS!!!

now...as for some lovecraft movie suggestions

-dagon
-reanimator ("bride of reanimator" & "Beyond Reanimator")
-resurrected (best screen adaptation of any of lovecrafts work)
-necronomicon (guess you already saw this one though)
-the lurking fear
-the unnamable
-the unnamable 2
-from beyond
-cool air: best of hp lovecraft volume 1 (availble at www.lurkerfilms.com)
-rough magik: best of hp lovecraft volume 2 (www.lurkerfilms.com)

i know i must be missing some here, but hopefully that helps, you gotta check out "resurrected" for sure , its pretty kick ass

Well said Haggard. I think the world would be a very different place if you could buy tomes of ultimate power at Walden or Amazon. I know people that swear in the reality of Lovecraft's writing, but it takes only a minute online to find out the truth, and for folks like Azrael to spout off with such conviction about something so wantonly false makes me cringe for humanity. I had never heard of resurrected, so thanks for that tip.

Hi

I agree with your entire list except for Cool Air and Rough Magik which I havn't seen and will immediately go to these sites you mentioned and GET them, but I must disagree with Lurking Fear. That was a DOG because those lame-a** vanilla pudding-cater-to-teenage-stemcases Full Moon got their hands on it.

I would also like to add 2 film versions of the same story (The Colour Out Of Space) 1965's DIE MONSTER DIE, and 1980's THE CURSE, and an interesting but not too close to the original story film of THE DUNWICH HORROR with Sandra Dee (!!!!) and Dean Stockwell made in 1968, if I recall. I know I could actually look all this up here on the IMDB, but whatthehell... you guys can do that hehe.

Good thread people. Keep it up

"Can anyone Recomend any other movie title simiar to this ie. close to lovecrafts original ideas"
_____________________________________________________________________________________________________

Actually, this request is impossible to fulfill, as it contains an irrevocable paradox. The terms "similar title" and "close to Lovecraft's original ideas," in this case, run counter to one another. So a request for similar titles that remain faithful to Lovecraft's ideas cannot be fulfilled, you see. Any similar film is not going to be faithful to Lovecraft's ideas, and any film which is close to Lovecraft's ideas is not going to be similar to this one.

If you enjoyed Necronomicon, watch In The Mouth Of Madness, the Hellraiser saga (especially movies 1, 2 and 3), and The Midnight Meat Train.

Boycott movies that involve real animal violence! (and their directors too)

Would be remiss if I saw an HPL movie thread and didn't add a couple that aren't talked about enough imo:

The Last Wave (1977)
The Endless (2017)

Full disclosure: neither of these are similar to this film in most respects. As a fan of Lovecraft's writing and mythology, they do justice to his chilling sense of cosmic horror that there are forces beyond human comprehension at play.
