i am awaiting your suggestions people. surely they don't have to be british. i am aware that not many films made like naked but hey perhaps some of you has larger film library than me :)

Hmm... a bit more to the leftfield but I'd recommend Jim Jarmusch's films. They're a lot more trendy and... well for lack of a better phrase - self aware than Leigh's films... but very good all the same.

Wow, you put The incident (1967) a totally obscure movie but so great. I would add in your talkie list The hill (1963) with Sean Connery.

If you understand french, both The incident and The hill are extremely well dubbed in french and it's even better in french (I must admit that it's pretty rare that the original version are lesser good than the dubbed version but it's the case with these movies).

This is a very late response, but I can't believe nobody said 'Nil By Mouth' directed by Gary Oldman.

An utterly brutal yet brilliant film, with a very realistic look into 90's Britain.

Quite similar to 'Naked' but with less intelligent characters. It's one of my very favourite films.
