Laurie's Parents

Were her parents in denial that their daughter was sick or they stupidly didn't know she was sick? What pissed me off the most was this. The scene where Laurie enters the home where the 3 people live in (after the school shooting incident)and then the young guy talks to Laurie's mom on the phone to make her come and get her daughter. Instead of her saying I'll come right away, she saids I can't because I don't have a car. The guy insists she take a cab or get a ride from someone. But no. She demands that she has to wait when her husband gets home. Then when she's with the cops, she acts like she has no emotion of what her daughter did and that Laurie going to jail until she kills herself. What an uncaring and dimwitted bitch. She deserves a good punch in the face. I think Laurie's dad had a little more of a heart though when he got upset when he tried calling her at the house and she didn't answer. Anyone agree with me?

That was reportedly the problem in real life as well. Her parents were in denial about her mental illness and defended her several times.

"On several occasions, Dann's parents, intervened on their daughter's behalf. When Glencoe police asked him to persuade Dann to give up her .357 magnum, Norman Wasserman refused, saying she needed it as protection against her ex-husband. When several families for whom she baby-sat reported thefts and property damage, Wasserman denied her guilt but made restitution.

Last summer he placated officials at Northwestern University, where Dann was about to be evicted from a campus apartment for turning her room into a health hazard and for leaving raw meat under cushions in public areas. Some authorities believe her parents acted irresponsibly in covering Dann's tracks. "The family was able to do things which blocked the normal processes" of the system, says Frank Kruesi, chief executive officer at the Cook County State's Attorney's office. "They were trying to shield her rather than protect her and do what's best for the community." "

I hated her parents. I think they knew full well how sick their daughter was and wanted to push her off on her poor husband. If only they had intervened, maybe the shooting wouldnt have happened. Your daughter storing pounds of bloody, raw, unpackaged meat in her fridge is a pretty good indicator of mental issues.

I wonder where Laurie's brother was while this was going on.
