Screenplay is pretty weak but overall a nice movie

The overall idea of the movie was good but some of the details weren't so hot. I never got a sense of anything going on with any of the characters yet supposedly ten years had passed? The film doesn't have a sense of time or dramatic scope to speak of, even though people die, cry and fight - none of that affected me because it was just far too abrupt and theatrical with hardly any backstory. I mean the whole movie is presented in this poetic flowy type environment but when things do happen, i.e. dramatic parts, those scenes are just abruptly thrown in along with the abrasive sounds and soundtrack, making an otherwise competent film lacking in finesse but easy to watch.
