I also very much liked the way her character was portrayed/acted by the director's wife, at the age of 20, displaying the same traits of her aged ten. A(nother) marvellous performance.

This is on my Top Favorite Movies List for years now...beautifully filmed and superb acting by Mui (10) and Mui (20).
This movie makes me feel peaceful and centered. Mui's love of life, and happy, grateful, and quiet acceptance of whatever comes her way is a perfect example of finding your inner fulfillment in simple things and the wonders of this earth.
The greater performance was by the younger girl, I thought. Except that the basin washing scene by the older actor was incredibly hot.
