the green papaya scene when she cut it open

One scene is really bothering me,w hich is when she cut the green papaya open and smiled at the white seeds. I understand her fascination with the frogs , birds, etc. But for some reason I think theres something wrong with that scene? Anyone agree? What was the reason/symbolism/ use for that freaking scene? I would not smile at the seeds if I were cutting vegetables for god sake.

It's a fruit, not a vegetable.

I thought it was cool because she saw something that she did not expect and probably thought it to be real interesting and beautiful at the same time, so why would you not smile :)
Plus she has a sweet and innocent nature.

When the time comes that you CAN see the beauty in the cut green papaya and savor the scent of it, you will know why we can't possibly explain the treasures of life in words.

They were beautiful to her. They way they look, smell, the texture and feel.

Her fascination with green papaya seeds represents the essence of her character which remains unchanged from childhood to adulthood. She will always notice and appreciate the beauty in something as simple as touching a green papaya seed.
