MIchael Keaton as Dogberry...

...absolutely stole the show. Hilarious.

Quite. Quite... The line that always gets me cracking up: Thou wilt be condemned into everlasting redemption for this! Just... classic.

Funniest and weirdest role I ever saw him play! Reminded me of Beetlejuice.

I'm Batman!

I am so glad I am not the only one who liked his performance! My favorite part was when he said "But, masters, remember that I am an ass; though it be not written down, yet forget not that I am an ass." So funny!

I only saw it once and I don't have a good memory of the movie and that line, but I'll definitely rent it, again.

I'm Batman!

Keaton says in a special feature on the film DVD that when he was asked by Branagh to play Dogberry, Keaton was somewhat frightened of accepting, but that his best roles had initially caused him to be frightened of them.

BTW, leave it to Shakespere to give him the name, "Dogberry", which is perfect for a weird character. And yes, the resemblence to Beetlejuice is there to see.

Stupid!?! I never called you stupid! To call you stupid would be an insult to stupid people!

reply

I didn't even recognize Michael Keaton at first!

Pretty great performance.

reply

I agree with seeing Beetlejuice. Then that was all I could see. If BJ never existed, I may have enjoyed the performance.

I agree with everyone else here that Michael Keaton damn near steals the movie. He nearly put me in stitches! But please tell me, Shakespeare knowledgeables, is their prancing about faking horses taken straight out of Monty Python and the Knights of the Round Table? Even the guards do some silly posturing in the beginning that seems to be a salute to that?
