Why didn't Daniel anticipate Mirandas birthday?

I'm thinking it's more likely he didn't anticipate having a life-altering dinner meeting getting scheduled at the same time in the exact same restaurant

He probably didn't expect it to be a big gathering with Stu, her AND the kids AND be invited. Also as poster Jrphilly says, the added fact it's in the restaurant for a business meeting makes even more unexpected.
