College Lee Attended

The scene where she and William Hurt (her professor) meet on the steps of the college was shot at Barnard College in NYC - at 116 and Broadway. They never mention the college's name, and it's not mentioned in the "thank you" section of the credits. In fact, no mention in the closing credits show where it was filmed, but we all know it's NYC. I would assume the filmmakers had permission to shoot the scene there, but not to use the Barnard name. I wouldn't blame them, I wouldn't want my college's name mentioned because Hurt's character was having an affair with his student (Lee)

Barnard is one of the "Seven Sisters" Colleges. So that would mean that Hurt's character is a professor of (probably) the English Department and that Lee is a Barnard Student. But the specific college Lee attends is never mentioned.

GOOF: She crosses the street (Broadway) and runs into Gus who is waiting for her on the "island" between the two sides of Broadway. Behind her the gates to the steps of Earl Hall of Columbia University are closed. In the next shot, the gates are now open, and she crosses the other side of Broadway and she walks up the steps (and down and up and down) as she rants at Gus.
