He did not understand that his attachment to Laurisa was inappropriate, and he viewed the objections as mean and puzzling.

When Linda approached him about it (twice by phone and then by his house), she went on the notion that Curt knew better than to continue his harassment, but Curt didn't perceive his feelings as being wrong, so he reacted by defying the demands to stop. Linda also suggested and offered to connect Curt with a psychiatrist. This shows how strongly she believed Curt was deliberately harmful.

People tend to assume that stalkers are aware of how creepy they are. The stalker thinks everyone else is unfair in trying to 'prevent love' .. because in the mind of that stalker, his 'love' is pure and beautiful.
This person is unable to assess the truth of the situation: that following someone, sending unsolicited gifts, trespassing, etc .. is weird and scary, and it has nothing to do with love.

Sure there's something wrong with him, BUT he knew they all wanted him to stop and he kept harrassing them and sending threatening letters. This guy DID know right from wrong. At first he might have not understood but he soon did and seem to enjoy what he was doing. I wouldn't defend him, based on how far he took his stalking, even when the police and judge warned him to stop.

Yes, he reacted (to being told to leave Laurisa alone) by becoming belligerent and continuing.

That's not what I meant.

He did not view *his attachment to Laurisa* as abnormal, so he was angered by the parents' and others' demands that he stop, and THEN he began his taunts, etc.

So while Curt DID get obnoxious and crossed legal boundaries, it was his crush on Laurisa that seemed, to him, perfectly normal.
He couldn't see why they thought it was wrong, and he retaliated, becoming increasingly more unhinged and delusional.

Exactly my thinking. I think today he’s be labeled a child pedophile. He’s like those men who abuse little boys calling it love.
