Larenz Tate deserved an Oscar nod for his portrayal of O-Dog

Larenz was so believable and actually turned sociopathic O-Dog into a charismatic character. Anyone else agree?

Yeah he was great in this, there were gang members on the set who even seemed convinced he was the real thing, there's certainly been far lesser performances that have won Oscars (Russell Crowe in Gladiator to name one of many).

He got an oscar nomination for this? Seriously?! I thought his role was rather insignificant in this movie.

reply

I hope you're joking

reply

Did you read the OP? He DIDN'T get an Oscar nomination dumbass!

O-Dog was a horrible excuse for a human being, but Mr. Tate played the role brilliantly. Actually, the entire cast was phenomenal. Top-notch performances all around.

Aree 100% And on a project I am working on for the LA Times, I have him listed as one of the overlooked actors for this performance.

I think this everytime I see this movie. If it came out today, after the introduction of the internet, I could definitely see him getting a nomination for his performance.

reply

Look at him in Menace and then in the Inkwell as the shy virgin kid. Yes he deserved an award.

The supporting actor category in 1993 was by far the the most stocked race in Oscar history. The guy who should've won, Val Kilmer for Tombstone, wasn't even nominated.

So yeah, Tate was great, but the fact that he didn't get recognized isn't anything to commiserate. He was just unfortunate to fall in the year he did.

Sean Penn deserved a nomination, IMO, for Carlito's Way.

Tommy Lee Jones won for The Fugitive which was one of many Academy choices I didn't agree with.

Malkovich was better, so was Fiennes. Penn too.

To Hell with the Oscars.

Tate killed it. One of the most iconic performances ever.

^^^^^ Agree with the post above.
