Gettin' it on in the fall-out shelter

Just HOW old were the kids in the fall-out shelter supposed to be?
If they hadn't been interrupted by the door being forced then things looked like they were going MUCH further!
I was concerned because the girl looked very young indeed.

They were around 14 and 15. Yeah they were getting a little too close for comfort. Almost too much for a kids/family movie.

'14 or 15'? The boy maybe, but the girl looked younger to me, perhaps I'm just getting old!

Yeah, man, Lisa Jakob was a beanpole in that movie. And I don't think they would've gone much beyond necking.

At least they were BOTH under 18.

In the USA, somewhere around 40 percent lose their virginity at age 14. If you group together people under 18, it's almost everybody. At least in older movies teenagers look like teenagers. I hate when everybody looks 26.

reply

"At least in older movies teenagers look like teenagers."?!

Maybe it's just me, but I can't think of a single "teenager" in a single movie from the '50s who looked under 30-35 (no matter how young the actor actually may have been).

reply

Yeah back then kids that were 15 looked 25 or 30. Kind of weird. Maybe because kids are spoiled now days and back then you had to grow up fast, get married and all that. Now it's like the Peter Pan syndrome. No one wants to grow up. I think that attitude can actually biologically change a person's look in age. But it could be a bunch of bull.

We could just be associating the clothing, hair, and speech styles with our parents or other people we think of as older. I don't know.

Speaking of which, the 1982 movie "Grease 2" (Michelle Pfeiffer & Maxwell Caulfield) also features an almost-sex-in-a-fallout-shelter scene, but with high school teenagers who both look and are well into their 20's.

The birth years of the 4 ladies who headline that 1982 movie are 1958, 1952, 1953, and unknown (Allison Price).

The guys? 1959, 1954, 1956, 1955, and unknown (Leif Green).

You know, they get a pass- They were convinced the world might have been ending around them.

reply

Yeah, can't blame them under the (perceived) circumstances.

reply

To be fair, most of the kids' parents aren't that much older than them either. Different time & place.
