What's The Problem?

I don't understand why I always find this movie with a one star rating.

I love this movie and I'm not even married (or perhaps that is why I like this movie).

Of course, an actress with some talent, rather than Cybill Sheppard would have raised this movie to even greater heights, but, you know, you can't have everything.

Well, it's only taken 3 years for someone to agree with your post. Yes, Cybill Sheppard was cringe-worthy in this film. I couldn't believe how bad she was. It was like she was reading lines for the first time -- or not even that good. And compared to the wonderfully natural acting of the other 5 principles, she just clunked up the scenes she was in. Still, it's a great film about a difficult subject: relationships. Highly recommend it. First time through, I was like, "what's the big deal and why did I spend so much for this DVD." Second time through it was, Ooooh, I get it. Third time through, I was just amazed how the screenwriter captured the nuances of relationships/marriage, the ups and downs. But every time through, Cybill just remained a big clunk getting in the way. So ignore her and enjoy the rest of it.

I thought it was a good film. It's more unknown due to the fact it was owned by Orion at the time they were going bankrupt, and sat on the shelf for I believe YEARS before it was finally put out there.

A shame - it's a nice little movie.

Wait a minute... who am I here?

I bought this years ago, when videos were still being sold. I think it was somewhere in the late 90s. I'dnever seen the film before and I remember I bought the film for about £5.

I remember really enjoying the film on first seeing it, and I seem to like it a little more each time.

Victims; aren't we all?

sadly....Cybil Shepherd is not the thespian equal of any of the principals in this film....and it stands out....the film itself is very authentic about love and life's mysteries....

I don't know what the problem is, but I suspect it's not Cybill Shepherd.
(Or Mary Stuart Masterson, whom I remembered being better in this film than she actually was. Anyway, after watching the film again, I think it wasn't her best performance.)

I think the "problem" is in the viewers who fail to empathise with the subject and its warm, human treatment.

It's a very good film. It could have been better, but it is good.
I enjoy it.

I have loved this movie since it came out---and saw absolutely nothing wrong with Cybil Shepard's performance. I love the plot, the story line, the characters and character development. Was it perfect---no. I watch it whenever I catch it on cable though. Maybe it's because I love most of the people in the film, and I love movies where a group of people who are so unalike all become fiends. Who misses Ron Silver's acting? Wonderful actor. True of all of the actors/actresses in this film. 10/10
